The Restoration and Museumisation of the Building
Vila-seca Town Council recently restored and museumised Celler de Vila-seca with the help of European FEDER funds. The project aimed to create a Cultural Park between two major facilities in the eastern area. The restoration showcased the unique features of the building and its history, offering an enriching and immersive experience to visitors.
Preserving the original interior spaces, furnishings, and materials, the project added new infrastructures and functional elements in annexed bodies or volumes. The renovated cultural space has new facilities of 3,150 m² spread over two floors, including museum facilities, a pressing room, a processing room, and interactive spaces that offer an innovative virtual experience.
Visitors can experience the winemaking process through a large animated projection of video mapping, enhancing the understanding and deeper appreciation of the creation, function, and architecture of the wineries of Catalonia.
Acoustical Challenges in the Restored Building
Before the restoration, the building had poor acoustics, which presented a challenge to developing new activities inside. To resolve this, the project enlisted the expertise of acoustic engineer Ivana Rosello.
The solution involved installing 1800m2 of Rockfon Color-all Charcoal acoustic panels between the wooden beams using a glued solution. This installation highlighted the elegance and unique character of the interior space of the celler, with the black color adding to its aesthetic appeal.
With this solution in place, the restored building can now accommodate various activities, enhancing its value as a cultural hub.
