Rockfon announces its participation at the 2024 edition of 3 Days of Design in Copenhagen, Denmark, ongoing June 12–14, 2024. Titled "It All Begins with Stone", the exhibition invites visitors to explore the power of volcanic stone and its ability to awaken the senses and boost well-being. It takes visitors through each dimension of the resource, offering insights into its strengths.
First discovered in Hawaii at the beginning of the nineteenth century, volcanic stone has remarkable strengths that allow it to meet the stringent requirements that safe, healthy contemporary buildings require. When it's melted in the furnace and spun into wool fibres, it becomes porous and its high sound absorption capacities become activated.
In the showroom, two Copenhagen-based artists interpret the resource: one interpretation is led by the aural, the other by the textural and the visual – together creating a multisensory, immersive foray into volcanic stone.
In Converging Textures of Chance and Beauty, composer and sound artist Mads Bergland aims to reflect the beauty and complexity of nature's randomness in a computer-generated, generative sound work. The piece is composed of four distinct sound sources, each played simultaneously from its own speaker. Visitors to the exhibition are invited to move freely among these sources, experiencing the sounds both as individual elements and as part of a cohesive, spatial composition. "The sounds, generated by algorithms, mimic the randomness found in nature—the rustling of leaves, the flow of water, the chirping of birds. As visitors navigate through the space, they will hear the interplay of these sounds, discovering how they converge to form a complex and beautiful auditory environment," says Bergland.
In the installation Awaken the Senses, artist Leo Maribo takes the unique, abundant resource and endeavors towards a deep understanding of its inherent characteristics in a site-specific dialogue with the showroom space. "I was inspired by the raw materials and the story they tell about the stones and the unexpected nature of the final product," says Maribo.
In tandem with the exhibition, two casual fireside chats will with industry leaders will tackle the question "What emerging opportunities and technologies can improve interior efficiency?", touching upon contemporary challenges in sustainable building, considerations for indoor well-being, and the use of virtual reality technologies in the design process.
